The employees at all United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) headquarters, in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, launched a strike on Monday, in a response to the systematic neglect of the international agency and its denial of the rights of refugees and staff.
The head of the UNRWA Employees Union, Sohail Al-Hindi, explained that the strike includes all UNRWA facilities, including education and health.
This time, according to Al Ray, the strike includes only Gaza City, and the cities in the northern occupied West Bank (Jenin-Nablus-Tulkarem, etc.), while the events will extend to include all regions of under UNRWA provision, in the event of failure to respond to demands, Al-Hindi added.
According to al-Hindi, the union has also demanded that UNRWA increase salaries to reflect the high cost of living, and to stop reducing services which the organization previously offered to Palestinian refugees.
