Jerusalem, May 21, 2025 (WAFA) – The Jerusalem Governorate warned of a dangerous escalation in the occupied city in the coming days, as the Israeli occupation authorities continue to organize a series of colonial and Judaization activities aimed at imposing Israeli sovereignty over the city of Jerusalem and consolidating the reality of occupation by force, in flagrant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.
The governorate stated in its statement that the occupation police had announced the date and map of the provocative “Flag March,” scheduled for Monday, May 26.
The march will begin at Al-Buraq Square, pass through Bab al-Amud, and the al-Wad neighborhood within the Old City, areas densely populated with Palestinian residents.
She emphasized that this annual march is part of a systematic provocative agenda, typically accompanied by attacks on Jerusalemites and the chanting of racist slogans against Muslims and Christians, under heavy protection from the occupation police, who will impose a complete closure of the area beginning at 12:30 p.m.
The governorate added that the occupation municipality called for a bicycle marathon on Friday, May 23, which constitutes an exploitation of sporting events to impose an unacceptable political reality by closing the city’s streets starting from the evening of Thursday, May 22, until the following morning, in an attempt to consolidate Israeli control over East Jerusalem by promoting the manifestations of sovereignty in the occupied city under international law.
In another escalation that reveals the extent of colonial arrogance, the Jerusalem Governorate stated that settlers continue their public incitement and promotion of what they call the laying of the “foundation stone for the alleged temple” by former US President Donald Trump on the ruins of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
This move represents an extension of the plan to strip Islamic sovereignty over the mosque and to enshrine the biblical narrative at the expense of Arab, Islamic, and Christian rights to Jerusalem.
The governorate considered these activities, with their aggressive colonial character, to constitute a direct assault on the lives of Palestinians in the city.
Neighborhoods are under siege, citizens are prevented from moving, businesses are forcibly closed, and journalists and media crews are repeatedly subjected to violations during coverage.
She stressed that these activities, no matter how intense, will not change the established fact that Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the State of Palestine, and that all Judaization attempts will fail in the face of the will of its steadfast people and the support of the free people of the world.
She held the international community and the United Nations responsible for their silence and inaction in the face of this systematic escalation, and called for a clear and explicit condemnation of these Judaization activities and for serious efforts to halt them immediately.
She also warned of the dangers of the “Greater Jerusalem” project, which the occupation government seeks to implement by annexing the surrounding settlements and towns, constructing massive roads to connect these settlements to each other, and imposing a fait accompli separating Jerusalem from its Palestinian extension.
She called on free peoples, parliaments, and international human rights organizations to take urgent action to curb the occupation, put an end to its violations, expose its racist practices, and stand with the people of Jerusalem in their battle for survival and steadfastness.
