QALQILIIA, Saturday, April 13, 2024 (WAFA) – A Palestinian father-of-seven died, Saturday evening, an Israeli detention center, , according to the Prisoners’ Affairs Commission (PAC) and the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS).
They said in a joint press release that 59-year-old Abdul-Rahim Abdul-Karim Amer, a resident of the city of Qalqilia, died in the Israeli Hadarim prison, and described him as another Palestinian worker who died due to Israeli repression, torture and detention.
There is no clear information yet on the circumstances surrounding the death of Amer, who along with his son were looking for employment opportunities when they were detained by the Israeli occupation forces from Tira city in Israel on March 17, 2024, PAC and PPS added.
Amer and his son have been sentenced to a month of imprisonment under the pretext of entering Israel without obtaining entry permits.
PAC and PPS stressed that since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation has arrested thousands of Palestinian workers and subjected them to unprecedented ruthless torture following large-scale detentions of Gaza workers from inside Israel and the occupied West Bank.
This brings the total number of Palestinian detainees who died in Israeli custody as a result of torture since October 7 to 16. Among them are four workers, including two from Gaza and Amer.
