Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, said on Monday that Israel will
negotiate with Syria over a peaceful settlement to the conflict if it
cuts its ties with Iran.

The statements of Olmert came after the Israeli military Intelligence said that the Syrian President, Bashar Asad, is serious in his call for negotiations with Israel.

Peretz also said that Syria should also stop its support for Hamas and Iran, and that Asad should carry practical measures that would promote a peace process.

During a session for the Kadima party, Olmert said that the party is seeking a diplomatic process and is not advocating for “military options”.

Olmert added that the peace process is filled with obstacles and could be dangerous therefore it needed lots of careful preparations.

“My meeting with Abbas took several months of preparations”, Olmert added.
