Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, met on Tuesday at his headquarters in Ramallah, the Singaporean Foreign Minister George Yong-Boon, and informed him on the latest development in the Palestinian territories, and the efforts to revive the stalled peace process.Palestinian Foreign Minister, Ziad Abu Amr, said after the meeting that the two leaders also held talks on the Arabic political efforts and initiatives in addition to the bilateral Palestinian- Singaporean relations.
Abu Amr also stated that Singapore expressed willingness to help the Palestinian in rebuilding the Gaza international airport which was destroyed by Israel since the beginning of the Al Aqsa Intifada late September 2000 in addition to helping rebuild several areas devastated by the Israeli invasions and shelling. Meanwhile, Yong-Boon stated that his country is ready to cooperate with the Palestinian National Unity Government, and is willing to continue supporting the Palestinian people. Following his meeting with Amr, Yong-Boon said that he is very pleased to visit Ramallah, and that he listened to a detailed explanation regarding the efforts carried out by the unity government to launch the stalled peace process, and the efforts carried out to push Israel in order to accept the Arab peace initiative.
Yong-Boon invited his Palestinian counterpart, and the Palestinian President to visit Singapore in the coming period.
