According to American media reports, a group of 31 US Democratic Senators have written a letter calling on the US administration to restore funding and aid to the Gaza Strip, warning that Palestinians are facing a humanitarian crisis.

The senators urged the administration to take immediate action to restore humanitarian aid to Gaza and have Israel end its 13 year blockade, which is the cause of the harsh economic situation, the Palestinian News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported.

“We write to request that the administration take immediate action to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza,” the Senators wrote in the letter. “As we enter 2020, the lack of access to water and electricity, medical care, as well as other basic social services, bring Gaza closer to complete collapse.”

They added, “This immediate crisis can be avoided with a resumption of bilateral US assistance to Gaza as well as funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency.”
