King Abdullah of Jordan stated on Friday night that Israel must make a choice between the mentality of being a fortress, and living in peace with its neighbors.During an interview with the Jordanian TV before he departed to the United States, King Abdullah said that the U.S is the country which is most capable of influencing Israel, an Israeli online daily reported.

 King Abdullah is expected to address the U.S Congress on Wednesday; during his speech he will most likely urge the U.S to make more effort in peace making.

“The Middle East is facing two choices”, King Abdullah told the Jordanian TV, “Either peace or violence and destruction”.

He also stated that a solution to the Palestinian cause would spare the region from chaos and disaster, and said that the U.S must be pushed to make balanced positions and support the peace process, Haaretz said.

 King Abdullah added that Washington is preoccupied with the Iraqi issue, and that Jordan wants stability and reconciliation in Iraq, Haaretz added.

“If the Palestinian issue is not solved, it will be impossible to solve other issues in the Middle East”, King Abdullah added, “There must be a just solution to the Palestinian issue”.

When he arrives in Washington, King Abdullah will also hold talks with the U.S President, George Bush, and the Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice.
