Soldiers on Thursday afternoon prevented reporters from entering the Gush Katif settlement bloc in the Gaza Strip while the army removed settlers and right-wing activists from their hotel headquarters.

The Israeli online daily Haaretz reported that soldiers detained and handcuffed two journalists covering events at the settlement. One of the journalists, Viko Atuwan, works for Israeli TV Channel 1. The other, Adi Yisraeli, is a photographer for Israel’s Maariv newspaper.

Some 40 journalists, mainly photographers, have been covering events in Gush Katif, according to Haaretz.

Yesterday, journalists from Israeli and foreign agencies and TV channels were present in the Moaz Yam Hotel in the Neveh Dekalim settlement, where the right-wing settlers had barricaded themselves.

The Israeli army restricted other Israeli and foreign reporters from entering the area, and ordered reporters from Maariv and the Israeli radio to leave the hotel immediately, ‘as they are violating a military injunction,’ Haaretz reported.
