Westminster lobby group – Conservative Friends of Israel (CFI) has urged the UK government to directly oppose the International Criminal Court (ICC)’s decision to open an investigation into Israeli war crimes committed in the occupied Palestinian territory, Middle East Monitor reports.
Writing to Prime Minister, Boris Johnson and Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab, senior CFI officials, argue that “as a non-state actor the Palestinians do not meet the legal requirements of the Rome Statute,” according to a CFI press release.
The group claims the move is “counterproductive and contrary to the peace process” and that the “only route to a lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians is the resumption of direct negotiations without preconditions.”
The following is the letter written by the CFI.
