The Palestinian Center For Human Rights (PCHR): April 21, 2022: Violations of the right to life and bodily integrity:

 Five Palestinian civilians, including a child and a girl, were killed and 203 others, including 11 children, were injured, while tens of others suffocated and sustained bruises in separate incidents in the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem. Details are as follows:

On 14 April 2022, IOF moved into Kafr Dan village, western Jenin, where they killed two Palestinians, wounded 6 others, including a child who succumbed to his serious wounds next day, and arrested 3 brothers. More information available here.  In the evening, a Palestinian succumbed to live-bullet wounds he sustained in his chest during clashes with Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) a day earlier in Beita village in Nablus.

On 18 April 2022, a girl succumbed to live-bullet wounds she sustained in her abdomen during IOF’s incursion into Jenin camp. It should be noted that she is a high school student and was on her way to take a private tuition.

Most of them were victims of excessive use of force that accompanied suppression of peaceful protests and gatherings organized by Palestinian civilians:

On 15 April 2022, at least 153 Palestinians were wounded, including 6 in critical state, 3 journalists, and 3 paramedics, during Israeli occupation forces (IOF) raid and extensive attacks on thousands of worshipers at al-Aqsa Mosque and its yards in occupied East Jerusalem. IOF launched a mass-arrest campaign after its breach into the holy mosque, at least 470 worshippers were arrested. More information available here.

Also, on 18, 19 and 20 April 2022, IOF raided al-Aqsa Mosque yards again, surrounded and assaulted the Palestinians worshipers and fired live bullets and teargas canisters in the mosque’s yards and inside al-Qibli Chapel to provide protection for thousands of settlers during their storming on the Jewish Passover days. IOF’s suppression resulted in the injury of 3 Palestinians and the arrest of 7 others.

On 14 April 2022, five Palestinians, including a child, were injured and two others were physically assaulted and then arrested during separate clashes with IOF at the main entrance to Nabi Salih village, at the entrance to Budrus village, near Sinjil village’s entrance, and at Aboud village’s entrance in Ramallah. On the same day, a child was wounded with a rubber bullet and a Palestinian was arrested during clashes with IOF near Eyal Crossing, north of Qalqilya.

On 15 April 2022,  three Palestinians sustained rubber-bullet wounds during IOF’s suppression of Kafr Qaddoum weekly protest in Qalqilya.

Also, a child was shot with a live bullet and another one was assaulted and then arrested during clashes with IOF near (300) military checkpoint, north of Bethlehem.  Moreover, 4 Palestinians sustained live-bullet wounds during clashes with IOF near a military checkpoint in Bab al- Zawiyia area in central Hebron. Additionally, two children were wounded with 2 live bullets during clashes with IOF at the entrance to Beit Einun village in Hebron. In the evening, a Palestinian sustained live-bullet wounds during clashes with IOF near al-Jalma military checkpoint, north of Jenin.

A child was seriously injured with a rubber bullet in his head, causing fractures in his skull, during clashes with IOF near the annexation wall adjacent to Al-Quds University (Abu Dis ) in occupied East Jerusalem.

On 16 April 2022, five Palestinians sustained rubber-bullet wounds during IOF’s suppression of Kufur Qaddoum’s weekly protest in Qalqilya. A Palestinian was wounded with a live bullet during clashes with IOF at the entrance to Bani Na’im village in Hebron.

On 17 April 2022, a Palestinian holding a Jordanian passport was wounded with a live bullet fired by IOF near the annexation wall adjacent to Far’un village in Tulkarem. Also, 6 Palestinians were wounded by IOF’s fire near Eyal Crossing, north of Qalqilya.

Moreover, two civilians, including a child, were wounded and another Palestinian was arrested during clashes with IOF near an Israeli military checkpoint in Bab al-Zawiya area in central Hebron. Also, two children sustained rubber-bullet wounds during clashes with IOF near Rachel’s Tomb area in Bethlehem.

On 18 April 2022, two Palestinians were seriously wounded with live bullets in head and neck and another Palestinian was arrested during IOF’s incursion into Al-Yamun village, west of Jenin, at early dawn. Also, a Palestinian was injured with a live bullet in his knee during clashes with IOF in Bab al-Zawiyia area in central Hebron. Moreover, 3 Palestinians, including 2 children, were injured with  live and rubber bullets and another one was arrested during IOF’s incursion into Qarawat Bani Zeid and Kafr Ein villages in Ramallah.

On 19 April 2022, a Palestinian sustained live-bullet wounds during clashes with IOF on al-Shalalda Street in Hebron.

On 20 April 2022, concurrently with the arrival of the settlers’ provocative flags march, IOF assaulted Palestinians in Bab al-‘Amoud area in occupied East Jerusalem, tried to disperse them forcibly, and arrested 4 of them. Also, IOF suppressed a public iftar table organized by Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem, beat, pushed and pepper-sprayed the participants in the iftar and arrested a woman after physically assault her.

In the Gaza Strip, IOF opened fire 3 times at agricultural lands in access restricted areas, eastern Khan Younis and Central Gaza Strip. Also, six IOF shootings were reported on fishing boats off the Gaza shores.

So far in 2022, IOF attacks killed 38 Palestinians, including 29 civilians: 8 children, 3 women, and the rest were activists; 3 of them were assassinated. Also, IOF attacks wounded 438 others, including 56 children, 2 women, 13 journalists and 4 medical personnel: all in the West Bank, except for 5 fishermen in the Gaza Strip.

 

Settler attacks on Palestinian civilians and their properties:

On 16 April 2022, settlers, from “Adei Ad” settlement, assaulted Palestinian farmers and shepherds in al-Sahel area, east of Al-Mughayyir village in Ramallah. As a result, two Palestinians sustained wounds and bruises.

On 19 April 2022, Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians’ property in Wadi Qana area, north of Salfit, damaging solar panels, electricity networks and a water tank placed on a house roof.

So far this year, settlers carried out 97 attacks on Palestinians and their properties in the West Bank.

Land razing, demolitions, and notices

On 16 April 2022, a Palestinian was forced to implement the Israeli Municipality’s order and demolish his house sheltering him along with his wife and their 2 children, under the pretext of non-licensing.

On 17 April 2022, IOF confiscated an excavator while working at the northern entrance to Deir Istiya village , north of Salfit.

Since the beginning of 2022, Israeli occupation forces made 41 families homeless, a total of 248 persons, including 48 women and 115 children. This was the outcome of IOF demolition of 51 houses and 5 residential tents. IOF also demolished 29 other civilian objects, leveled 174 dunums and delivered 49 notices of demolition, cease-construction, and evacuation.

IOF incursions and arrests of Palestinian civilians:

IOF carried out 185 incursions into the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem. Those incursions included raids and searches of civilian houses and facilities and the establishment of checkpoints. During this week’s incursions, 565 Palestinians were arrested, including at least 54 children and a woman. Moreover, Jerusalem witnessed a wide-scale arrest campaign launched by IOF during their storming into al-Aqsa Mosque on 15 April 2022. During their incursion, IOF arrested 470 Palestinians at once and released most of them later.

So far in 2022, IOF conducted 2445 incursions into the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, during which 1925 Palestinians were arrested, including 207 children and 15 women. IOF also conducted 12 limited incursions into eastern Gaza Strip and arrested 27 Palestinians, including 14 fishermen, 11 infiltrators, and 2 travelers via Beit Hanoun “Erez” Crossing.

Israeli collective punishment

As part of the IOF collective punishment policy against Palestinians accused of carrying out attacks against IOF or settlers, the Israeli authorities approved the demolition of Diyaa Hamarsha’s family house in Ya’bad village in Jenin. It should be noted that Diyaa was killed after carrying out a shooting attack in Tel Aviv that resulted in the murder of 5 Israelis on 09 March 2022.

So far in 2022, IOF demolished 4 houses and closed another one after damaging its contents, as part of collective punishment policy.

Israeli closure policy and restrictions on freedom of movement:

 The Israeli occupation maintains its illegal and inhuman 15-year closure on the Gaza Strip. Details available in PCHR’s monthly update on the Gaza crossings.

In the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, IOF continues to impose restrictions on the freedom of movement. On top of its 108 permanent checkpoints, IOF established 99 temporary military checkpoints this week and arrested 9 Palestinians at those checkpoints. The majority of the checkpoints were in Hebron (36), followed by Bethlehem (26). Jerusalem also witnessed many restrictions on freedom of movement in Ramadan.

So far in 2022, IOF established 1155 temporary military checkpoints this week and arrested 68 Palestinians at those checkpoints
