Leftist member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, Khalida Jarrar,
confirmed late Sunday that an Israeli military court postponed
sentencing of Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Secretary
General Ahmed Sa'adat.
The Israeli Ofar Military Court located in a settlement in the West Bank's eastern Ramallah postponed the sentencing scheduled for Sunday. PLC deputy Jarrar told a press conference that it is the occupation on trial and not Sa'adat.
This is why, she said, the PFLP leader's sentencing is perpetually postponed. Jarrar said that Sa'adat was prepared to speak to the military court “expressing his pride in the Palestinian peoples' resistance to occupation and their adherence to a just peace based on an end to the Israeli military occupation and implementing international law and resolutions.”
Israeli forces stormed the Palestinian Authority jail in the eastern West Bank's Jericho months ago and took the prominent leftist into the Israeli prison system.
Through Jarrar's press conference, the imprisoned Sa'adat was able to salute the women of Beit Hanoun who saved the lives of tens of men trapped in a northern Gaza Strip mosque several days ago. He called for Palestinian dialogue to solve internal conflict and said that national unity will “enhance the resistance” and lead to breaking the “unjust embargo imposed on us.”
Sa'adat stressed the continuation of the struggle “until the Palestinian people achieve an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as capital and the return of refugees.” He urged the “liberal people of the world to exert pressure on Israel to release Palestinian prisoners.”
Israel is holding approximately 10,000 Palestinian political prisoners in its jails. Among them are hundreds under Administrative Detention, meaning without charge or trial, children, women, and officials and citizens imprisoned for their political affiliation, and others still imprisoned for exercising their internationally legitimate right to resist the occupation.
Earlier on Sunday hundreds of Palestinians throughout the West Bank held nonviolent demonstrations in support of Sa'adat as the Israeli military court was expected to impose sentencing.
