Ghazi Hamad, spokesperson of the Palestinian Government, said on
Tuesday night that Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyya, met in Egypt with
the Egyptian Intelligence chief, Omar Suleiman.
Hamad stated that the meeting was “positive and constructive”, and that the two officials discussed several issues regarding the siege imposed on the Palestinians, the formation of the National Unity Government and other related issues.
Haniyya said that the decision of the Arab League to break the embargo should be translated into action, and stressed that Egypt plays an important role in the region.
Haniyya and Suleiman held talks on the issue of the abducted Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, and the Egyptian mediation with Israel regarding a prisoner swap deal.
Suleiman said that he will visit Israel on Wednesday to discuss this issue with Israel.
Haniyya is expected to meet with the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Omar Abu Al Gheit, and intends to visit injured Palestinians receiving treatment in Egypt.
