In spite of a clear declaration by the Al Qassam brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, that the truce with Israel is effectively dead after the recent assassinations and attacks, Dr. Ghazi Hamad, media spokesperson of the Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyya from the Hamas party, said that the government is interested in the truce in order to serve the Palestinian interests.
Yet, Hamad said that if Israel continues its attacks, invasions and assassinations, the truce will collapse and Israel will be held responsible for any further deterioration. He also stated that the occupation must stop all attacks and the continuous threats to invade the Gaza Strip.
Hamad said that the government will continue its talks and consultations with all Palestinian factions in order to make a decision that serves the Palestinian interests, especially amidst the dangerous escalation in the Israeli military attacks in the occupied Palestinian territories which have lead to further casualties.
Meanwhile, Abu Obaida, media spokesperson of the Al Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, said on Tuesday morning that there is no truce with Israel especially since the occupation has not halted its assaults. “There is no truce between us and the occupation”, Abu Obaida stated, “The occupation killed this truce the moment it was born”.
He added that the Al Qassam Brigades will not give Israel a “free truce”, adding that the Palestinians decided to give this truce a chance to live as long as the occupation is committed to it, but Israel resumed its attacks.
On Tuesday, the Al Qassam brigades said that it fired several homemade shells at Israel settlements adjacent to the Gaza Strip in retaliation to the Israeli violation. Abu Obaida said that resistance against the occupation is legitimate, and that this resistance will continue regardless of any regional, international or local changes. He also stated that the Palestinian factions will stand firm against any possible aggression and invasion into the Gaza Strip, and will strike back.
