On Monday, Day 395 of the ongoing conflict, the Israeli army fired barrages of missiles and shells at several parts of the devastated coastal enclave, including hospitals, resulting in dozens of casualties.

Update: 11:00 pm Nov. 4, 2024:

As the assault on Kamal Adwan Hospital continues, the Director of the hospital, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya told Al-Jazeera, “It appears that a decision has been made to execute all the staff who refused to evacuate the hospital. There are numerous injuries among the medical staff and patients, and the medical teams are unable to move between the hospital departments or save their injured colleagues.”

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that Israeli occupation forces continue to heavily bombard and destroy Kamal Adwan Hospital, affecting all of its facilities.

Dr. Abu Safiya continued, “We are still besieged, and it is time to protect the healthcare system in northern Gaza Strip. The situation is catastrophic, and several departments in the hospital are being subjected to insane Israeli bombing, and we do not know its goal or what the occupation wants. We request all humanitarian organizations to intervene to stop this shelling.

“We moved the children to the ground floor at the beginning of the shelling, which lacks medical supplies. We do not know the purpose behind this shelling that targets the hospital. The occupation is targeting all the aid that the World Health Organization is trying to bring in, and we are still under siege, and we demand that all humanitarian organizations intervene to protect the health system and stop the bombing.

“Several of our staff members have been injured, and we cannot leave the hospital. The army did not contact the hospital before directly targeting it.”

Escalated Israeli Bombings, Dozens Of Casualties In Gaza

In Jabalia, northern Gaza, several Palestinians were injured near Abu Sharkh Junction, in the western area of the Jabalia refugee camp.

The Israeli army artillery also shelled the vicinity of Al-Awda Hospital in Jabalia camp, while an Israeli drone fired at the gate and walls of the Indonesian Hospital in the town of Beit Lahia, causing panic among patients and healthcare teams.

The army also fired missiles at homes belonging to the Foura and Aman families near the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, resulting in numerous casualties, including children and women.

Gaza City witnessed a dangerous escalation after midnight, following artillery shelling and heavy gunfire south of the city.

Israeli shelling of a house in the Tuffah neighborhood, east of Gaza, resulted in many deaths and injuries, and ambulance teams were still trying to rescue missing people under the rubble.

Medical sources confirmed that a child succumbed to serious injuries at the Baptist Hospital in Gaza City after being evacuated from Kamal Adwan Hospital.

Furthermore, many Palestinians were injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting the Saftawi area, north of Gaza City.

Medical sources from Kamal Adwan Hospital reported that the artillery shelling targeted hospital wards, including the Children’s Ward, the Neonatal Unit, and water tanks, resulting in a child being seriously injured.

In a related context, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reported that its teams evacuated 30 injured and sick individuals, including children, along with 33 companions, from Kamal Adwan Hospital to Shifa Hospital in coordination with the World Health Organization.

Additionally, 14 injured and sick Palestinians were evacuated from Shifa Hospital to Nasser Medical Center in Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

At least one Palestinian was killed, and a few were injured by live fire from an Israeli drone targeting the Saftawi area, northwest of Gaza City.

Additionally, at least three Palestinians were killed in drone strikes on homes belonging to the Nabahin and Qaddouha families in the Nuseirat refugee camp, central Gaza.

Earlier, one Palestinian was killed, and a few were injured, in an Israeli bombing of homes in the northern part of the refugee camp.

Several casualties were reported by Israeli artillery shelling near the Karamish Park, north of Nuseirat, and another person was injured when a drone dropped a bomb on them.

Many injuries were also reported in Israeli bombing of a home, east of the Al-Bureij refugee camp, in central Gaza.

In Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, medical sources reported that several Palestinians were injured in a drone strike targeting a home in the Qizan Rashwan area, south of the city.

In Rafah, in Gaza’s southernmost part, the army fired several artillery shells at the Shaboura refugee camp, in the center of the city, causing many casualties.

The Government Media Office in Gaza said in a statement: “The occupation continues its intense ground, air, and naval assault on the northern Gaza governorate, and has destroyed all hospitals, rendering them non-operational, in addition to targeting ambulance crews and Civil Defense workers.”

It added: “The occupation continues its plan of killing, extermination, and mass displacement. These plans in the Gaza Strip are carried out under American cover. The Israeli occupation army deliberately starves civilians, deprives them of water, and prevents aid from reaching northern Gaza. We condemn the occupation’s crimes against humanity, massacres, and genocide.”

Earlier Monday morning, Israel formally notified the United Nations of its decision to sever relations with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, confirmed that Tel Aviv has informed the United Nations of its decision to cease cooperation with UNRWA.

UNRWA warned that the Israeli decisions to ban its operations would cause a collapse of humanitarian services in Gaza.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) provides a variety of essential services to more than 6 million Palestinian refugees:

Educational Support: UNRWA runs over 700 schools, offering free basic education to more than 545,000 students.

Healthcare Services: The agency manages primary health care centers that serve over 1.9 million refugees. UNRWA has 144 clinics and provides medical services to 8.5 million patients a year.

Relief and Social Services: UNRWA delivers food aid, cash assistance, and emergency support to those in need.

Refugee Camps Improvement and Infrastructure: The agency is involved in improving living conditions within refugee camps through various infrastructure projects.

Microfinance Initiatives: UNRWA provides microfinance services to help refugees start and sustain small businesses.

Emergency Response: The agency offers emergency aid during times of conflict and natural disasters.

These services are vital for the welfare and development of Palestinian refugees across its five areas of operation: Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem.

The Israeli occupation forces have continued their aggression on the Gaza Strip by land, sea, and air since October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of at least 43,341 citizens and injuries to more than 102,105 others.

Thousands of victims remain under the rubble and on the roads, with rescue teams unable to reach them.

Among the slain Palestinians are at least 17,289 children, 11,815 women, 2,421 elderly people, 177 journalists, 85 emergency responders, 1,047 medical staff, and 203 UNRWA staff.

The British Lancet Medical Journal and other experts estimate the death toll in Gaza to be much higher, potentially exceeding 200,000 when accounting for both direct and indirect deaths related to the Israeli war on Gaza.
