UN High Commissioner for Human Rights spokesperson Jeremy Laurence urged states party to the Rome Statute to adhere to and implement the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

During a press conference on Friday, Laurence underscored the UN’s respect for ICC’s independence and its jurisdiction as outlined in the Rome Statute, which established the court and governs all its cases.

“We strongly support efforts to enhance accountability for the gravest international crimes. States that are parties to the Rome Statute are required to respect and enforce the ICC’s decisions, and we expect them to do so,” Laurence stated.
