Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, held the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, responsible for clashes which took place between Fateh members and security forces, and members of the Islamic Block at Bir Zeit University, near the central West Bank city of Ramallah.
Hamas stated that Palestinian Security Forces, loyal to Abbas, surrounded the university and declared the Islamic Bloc as an illegal movement.
Sami Abu Zuhri, Hamas media spokesperson, issued a press release on Monday stating that members of the Fateh students block at the university attacked male and female students of the Islamic Block and wounded a number of them.
Abu Zuhri also said that members of the Fateh bloc and security forces members attacked and broke into a number of flats which are inhibited by supporters of the Islamic Bloc and arrested at least twenty students.
Hamas called on the security forces to stop these attacks and to stop intervening in student’s affairs, and called for the immediate release of all arrestees.
The movement also held president Mahmoud Abbas responsible for the practices of his security devices and the practices of Fateh movement for what Hamas described as attacks against the members and supporters of movement in the West Bank.
Also, Hamas said that declaring the Islamic Bloc as illegal is considered a serious issue and a dangerous escalation which will have consequences.
Hamas slammed what it described the silence of Palestinian factions towards the incidents of Bir Zeit University and the arrests against Hamas members and supporters in the West Bank. It also slammed what it described as the unbalanced role of the media which focuses on Gaza and ignores the violations and attacks carried by Fateh and its forces in the West Bank, according to Hamas.
