The Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Minister Riyad Mansour, thanked the countries for this great support and the growing sympathy of the international community, especially the issue of Palestinian refugees, which comes in the midst of the barbaric Israeli aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
For his part, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini appreciated the overwhelming vote of the United Nations General Assembly to renew UNRWA’s mandate for three years, stressing that the resolution reflects broad solidarity from all over the world with the refugees of Palestine.
He added in a statement today that the resolution also represents an acknowledgment of the responsibility of the international community to support the humanitarian and human development needs of Palestinian refugees, until a just and lasting solution to their decades-long suffering is reached.
The Commissioner-General of UNRWA stressed the need for this vote to be translated into a real commitment, and to provide the necessary resources to ensure the fulfillment of this mandate.
