The News Cast
An Israeli soldier was killed, on Wednesday at midday, when he was attacked by a Palestinian man in northern West Bank. Israeli sources said the solider was driving his jeep when he stopped near a military checkpoint known to locals as Za’tara checkpoint. The solider then was attacked with a knife by a Palestinian man.
The Israeli military have identified the attacker as Muhammad al-Khatib, a member of the Palestinian Authority’s police force from northern West Bank.
Also in northern West Bank an 18-year old teenager from the Palestinian village of Iraq Burin, was shot by an Israeli security guard. The boy sustained a wound to his knee.
The incident took place after Israeli settlers and supporters who, were gathered on stolen Palestinian land in the settlement of Har Bracha, near the village of Burin, called the settlement’s security forces. The settlers claimed the villagers hurled stones at them. The settlement security forces responded by driving to the area in a sports utility vehicle and firing randomly.
In other news, two Palestinian civilians were detained by Israeli troops, on Wednesday, during searches of homes targeting the city of Hebron and a nearby town.
Also in northern West Bank, Israeli troops fired tear gas at Palestinian famers and their international and Israeli supporters, on Wednesday, at the town of Yatta. The villagers along with their supporters were planting olive trees at lands owned by the villagers near the illegal Israeli settlement of Karmi Nassour.
Elsewhere the Israeli air force fired, on late Tuesday night, several missiles at the Gaza International Airport, east of Rafah city, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
Local sources reported that the army carried at least three consecutive air strikes at the main building of the airport. Excessive damage was reported, but no injuries.
This is the second attack against the idled airport since the beginning of this month. It was repeatedly attacked and bombarded by the Israeli army, while army bulldozers also destroyed its runways and demolished several buildings.
