Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, the rival of Fateh movement, strongly denounced the meeting between Palestinian Prime Minister, Dr. Salaam Fayyad, and Israeli Defense Minister, Ehud Barak.Hamas said that Fayyad is the Prime Minister of an “unconstitutional government”, and that this meeting came under pressure from the United States in an effort to “beautify the image of the occupation”, especially after the deadly Israeli attack on the Freedom Flotilla in May.

The movement also said that Fateh officials in the West Bank held several meetings with Israeli officials in Ramallah.

It stated that such meetings only aim at resuming the security coordination between Israel and the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, and added that such coordination is only a “cover-up for the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people besieged in the Gaza Strip for more than four years”.

In its statement, Hamas said that such meetings also provide another cover-up for Israel’s illegal settlement activities in the occupied West Bank, and in occupied East Jerusalem.

“This meeting does not represent the Palestinian people”, Hamas stated, “It is a provocative act that undermines the suffering of the people living under occupation and oppression led by Israel’s war minister, Ehud Barak”.
