Israeli Security forces arrested prominent right-wing Jewish activists in a West Bank settlement early Thursday, over suspicions of monitoring the movements of Israeli soldiers in the region, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz said.Haaretz added that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved a series of steps to crack down on Jewish extremists responsible for recent violent attacks on Israeli soldiers.
Because of lack of material evidence against the settlers, Netanyahu approved issuing an administrative detention order against them. However, he rejected a recommendation to label them a ‘terror group.’ Settler assaults against Israeli military and assaults against Palestinians civilians have been increasing in various West Bank regions with Mosques as primary targets.
