Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, met in Amman on Tuesday head of the U.S Senate Foreign Relations Committee, John Kerry, and discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, the official Palestinian & Info Agency, WAFA, reported.Abbas informed Kerry on the latest developments of the Jordanian initiative to host Palestinian-Israeli meetings in Amman in an attempt to ensure the resumption of the stalled peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.
Long-time Chief negotiator, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), Dr. Saeb Erekat, Palestinian Presidency Spokesperson, Nabil Abu Rodeina, and the Palestinian Ambassador in Amman, Attalla Khairy, attended the meeting.
It is worth mention that several Palestinian factions slammed the Palestinian Authority of Mahmoud Abbas for holding talks with the Israeli side in Amman.
The factions said that the P.A should maintain its stance of not holding any talks with Israel due to its ongoing violations, and ongoing settlement activities.
The Fateh movement of Abbas, and the P.A in the West Bank, stated that the talks are not considered a resumption of the peace process, but were hosted by Jordan in an attempt to bring the two sides closer so that efforts to resume peace talks can resume.
