Six men have been detained in the West Bank on Tuesday, including a Hamas leader from Jenin.
The Ma’an news agency reported the man to be Muhammad as-Sayyed, 50 years old, who is a lecturer at al-Quds Open University and a leader in the Hamas movement.
Israel carried out a campaign of detaining Hamas leaders in the West Bank in January, including the detention of elected officials. Two legislators were taken when Israeli forces raided the East Jerusalem headquarters of the International Red Cross.
Furthermore, five men were detained in the village of Kafr Qaddum, in the Qalqilya district. The village has recently joined the non-violent protest movement in the West Bank, where demonstrations are held each Friday, against the annexation of Palestinian land to settlements and the ongoing occupation of the Palestinian Territories.
The men were named as Aqba Obeid, 33 years old; Majd Abu Khaled, 23; Ali & Ahmed Juma, both 20; and Abdul Latif Obeid, 18.
