Israeli media sources reported that several soldiers were injured, on Thursday evening, after Palestinian fighters fired shells at Israeli forces who invaded an area, east of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.Following the incident, Israeli military choppers and military ambulances arrived at the scene, and evacuated the wounded soldiers who suffered mild injuries, except for one soldier who was moderately wounded. He was moved to the Soroka Hospital in Beer Sheba (Be’er As-Sabe’).
The al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Hamas movement, claimed responsibility for the attack, and warned Israel against any invasion or military offensive against the Gaza Strip.
The brigades said that its fighters spotted undercover Israeli soldiers invaded Khan Younis, and detonated an antipersonnel bomb near them.
It is worth mentioning that, earlier on Thursday evening, Israeli soldiers killed one child, identified as Younis Abu Doqqa, 12, and wounded another Palestinian after an Israeli Apache helicopter opened fire at several homes, and land in the area, as the soldiers invaded Khan Younis.
In related news, the army said that one tank was damaged after being hit by a mortar fired by fighters in Khan Younis, adding that the shell did not lead to any injuries among the soldiers.
The army started its operation in Khan Younis on Thursday morning; soldiers fired hundreds of rounds of live ammunition and several artillery shells.
