Israel’s consul to Holland, Uriel Yitzhaki, 50, was arrested at Ben Gurion International Airport, after arriving in Israel for a visit on Tuesday.
An Israeli source reported that the International Crime Squad arrested Yitzhaki on suspicions of selling 150 passports in exchange for a large sum of money, and benefits.
The Israeli Foreign and Interior Ministries aided in the investigation.
Yitzhaki was arrested for accepting bribes, fraud and breach of trust, an Israeli source reported.
Israeli placed a gag order on the investigation; details of his arrest were released for publication on Wednesday.
Yitzhaki became the Israeli consul to Holland in August 2002, after serving in a number of Israeli embassies including New York, Singapore and Nairobi; Israeli Police is also checking whether Yitzhaki sold Israeli passports during his previous postings.
