Ahmad Abdul-Rahman, head of the political committee of the Fatah revolutionary council, the political advisor of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, said that the movement is persistent to achieve democracy, in spite of the challenges it is facing.

“The movement will achieve democracy, as the only alternative to build the authority, the political system and the Palestinian independent stateâ€Â, Abdul-Rahman said. In an interview with Palestine News Network (PNN) website, Abdul-Rahman said that Fatah movement has to rebuild and reconstruct itself, in order to continue the path and the vision which the late president Yasser Arafat carried since 1965.

“Fatah is the spinal cord of the national struggle; we should rebuild its internal system on democratic basis, and elect its leading committee, Fatah members are facing problems as a result of the behaviors of some members and leaders, which is an issue we should solveâ€Â, Abdul-Rahman added.

Abdul-Rahman also said that the internal problems and conflicts in the movement should be solved by talks and participation of Fatah members and leaders, and added that it will overcome its current problems since it is a ‘pragmatic’ movement working and struggling for liberation and a democratic society.

“Fatah will run the second and third stages of the municipal elections, united and strong, after it faced a bitter experiences in the latest electionâ€Â, Abdul-Rahman said.

Abdul-Rahman told PNN that the movement should work in order to elect a trusted leadership and an elected central committee in order to regain its power among the Palestinian people.

Referring to cease-fire and talks with Israel, Abdul-Rahman said that the Palestinian Authority achieved and fulfilled its obligations concerning ceasefire, held talks with the Palestinian factions, and united the security devices, while Israel failed to fulfill its obligations, resumed its invasions and arrests in the Palestinian areas, I addition to resuming its settlements activities and the construction of the Separation Wall.
