UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan named on Friday Peruvian diplomat Alvaro de Soto as his special envoy to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, replacing Terje Roed-Larsen.
de Soto will also serve as Annan’s personal representative to the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority.
De Soto is expected to accompany Annan to a May 9 meeting in Moscow of the ‘quartet’ of Middle East advisers – the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations.
