The family of an 18-year-old Palestinian detainee who was injured as he was arrested by Israeli forces has appealed to humanitarian organizations and the Palestinian Legislative Council to take up his case and press Israel to provide him with needed medical treatment.
Mahdi Qasem Kamil of Kafer Ayyoush, south of the West Bank city of Tulkarem, was shot in the chest during his arrest. Instead of hospitalizing him for treatment of the injury, the Israeli authorities placed him in the Hadarim detention camp.
Ayyoush was also tortured and severely beaten in several parts of his body, including his privates, which caused further health complications, the family charged.
PLC vice chairman Hasan Khreisha said he has recently received several complaints about Israeli violations of Palestinian detainees’ rights.
The allegations include attacking the detainees, placing them in solitary confinement, conducting provocative searches, and above all denying detainees access to medical treatment and medication.
Khreisha added that the PLC will send letters to human rights organizations and foreign embassies in the Palestinian territories, to expose the Israeli violations of detainees’ rights.
