The Israeli army has increased the number of checkpoints and the harassment of passing cars on the main and side roads connecting the towns of Qalqilia and Salfit in the northern West Bank, an eyewitness reported on Saturday.

Lines of cars at many of these checkpoints were so long that Palestinians were unable to get to their jobs, schools, and homes, the eyewitness added

The increased security measures are part of Israel’s efforts to prevent settlers from carrying out plans to stage demonstrations on the roads of the West Bank to protest against the Sharon government’s program of disengagement from the Gaza Strip
