Rasheed Abu Shbak, head of the Palestinian Preventive Security in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip reported that the Palestinian Authority formed an investigation committee to probe the clashes that erupted in Gaza following the assassination of the leader of the Popular Resistance Committees in Gaza.
Abu Shbak stated during a press conference with the new Palestinian Minister of Interior. Sa’id Syam, that the committee will probe the events and appealed the residents to cooperate with the committee.
Three Palestinians were killed and at least 36 were injured during the in fight that erupted in Gaza after the death of Abu Yousef Al Qouqa, the general leader of Salah Ed Deen Brigades.
The clashes inflamed after the Spokesman of the Popular Resistance Committees, Abu Abeer, accused a Palestinian security device and some security figures of planning the assassination of Abu Yousef Al Qouqa, the general leader of Salah Ed Deen Brigades., the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees.
Al Qouqa was killed when a wired vehicle detonated as he was walked by it on his way to a mosque for Friday prayers.
During the funeral of Al Qouqa, clashed erupted between members of the brigades and unknown fighters, armed men also opened fire at the houses of Palestinian figures accused of plotting the assassination.
The situation in Gaza remained tensed while exchanges of fire are being heard amongst fear the fighters of the brigades would attempt to target the figures accused of assassinating Al Qouqa.
Palestinian Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyya, said on Saturday that the deadly factional fighting has created a dangerous situation in Gaza.
Haniyya added that officials of the security forces are trying to end the tension and to restore order.
