Some armed resistance wings are expanding their efforts from just fighting the Israeli occupation to those who are fighting the Palestinian police and public governmental buildings. Many view the Palestinian police as doing the bidding of the Israelis and Americans, via orders from some in the Presidential Office.

The involved resistance wings issued strong warnings Sunday against any who defame the prestige of the Palestinian police and governmental facilities. These actions taken by some over the past few months, they say, are adding to the chaos in the streets and are harming the Palestinian public.

The Palestine News Network received a statement issued by the armed resistance wings reading in part, “Public properties are the property of the entire Palestinian nation and aggressions against them are a crime which requires punishment as no one is above the law. We will handle those who work against the unity of Palestine.”

The Al Qassam Brigades of Hamas, Saraya Al Quds of Islamic Jihad, the Al Nasser Brigades, the leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine’s (PFLP) Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, and four subsets of Fateh’s Al Aqsa Brigades signed the statement.

Traditionally Palestinian armed resistance wings use their legitimate right under international law to defend the Palestinian people and land against the Israeli occupation only, not take on the Palestinian government. In recent weeks, as international support has been cut off after Hamas won the democratic Palestinian Legislative Council elections, the U.S. has stopped all funding and forbade its business or citizens from engaging with the Palestinian government. The European Union followed suit by cutting aid, while the Israeli government has refused to pay taxes due.

Therefore, most in Palestinians working in the Palestinian Authority have not received their salaries; some for months.

The statement continued to read, “Any officer of soldier in the Palestinian police represents the Authority, and we will not allow aggressions against them or their prestige.”

The eight armed resistance wing signatories called upon the PA framework itself to take its responsibility in protecting public properties and work for the protection of all, with the help of the resistance.

Sunday’s statement comes just a day after the Al Qassam Brigades and the Al Aqsa Brigades, the armed resistance wings of the Hamas and Fateh political parities respectively, after an armed group attempted to steal properties from the southern Gaza Strip.

As of late, operations of theft and repeated aggressions from some armed groups have raised anger amongst the citizens who are demanding that the PA and the new PLC government take their role in preventing such acts.

A media spokesperson in the PA Ministry of Interior confirmed that said Ministry will “not neglect this affair.”
