A meeting between the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas and the Minister of Interior, Sa’id Siyam, ended Sunday evening without an agreement on the referendum, though both leaders agreed to hold another meeting on Monday evening.
The meeting was conducted at Abbas’ office at the Gaza beach. Monday’s meeting is expected to include talks between several Palestinian factions including Hamas and the Islamic Jihad.
In a press conference held at the entrance of the presidential headquarters in Gaza, Siyam said that Abbas will also meet with the Higher Follow-up Committee to inform them on the latest developments.
“We already declared our position rejecting the referendum”, Siyam added, “But we are willing to resume the talks and widen them. God willing, we will reach an agreement as soon as possible”.
