The Palestinian News Agency, WAFA, reported that Israeli soldiers fired artillery shells that fell close to a United Nations convoy for the Middle East while driving out of the Gaza Strip. Surprised by the shells, the convoy returned back to Gaza.

WAFA,added that several shells exploded close to the convoy causing no injuries or damage.

On Tuesday, Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, received in his Gaza headquarters the UN delegation dispatched by the Secretary General Kofi Annan’s to defuse the current crisis.

WAFA reported that the delegation was led by Mr. Kofi Annan’s Special Political Advisor, Vijay Nambiar, the UN envoy to Middle East Alvaro de Soto and Special Envoy Terje Roed-Larsen.

During the meeting, Abbas said that there could be no achievements in the peace process while Israeli resumes its military assaults.

Abbas demanded an immediate halt to the ongoing military offensive.

Presidency spokesperson, Nabil Abu Rodeina, told reporters that Abbas demanded the delegation to work for an immediate end of the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, and to pressure the Israeli government to stop its continuous Israeli military escalation.
