In a televised interview with the Aljazeera Channle’s show ‘Without Frontiers”, Naeyf Hawatma, senior member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), revealed that Israelis and a number of Hamas officials in London, have been preparing over the past few months a memo of understanding similar to the Geneva document signed few years ago between Israeli and Palestinian officials.

Hawatma said that Palestinian Prime Minister, Ismail Haniya, of Hamas, handed the document to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Hamas completly denied Hawatma’s claims, saying that such a document had nothing to do with the movement and it has been discussed between Palestinian and Israeli intellectuals.

Hamas spokesman, Fawzi Barhoum, in an interview with IMEMC, denied totally Hamas' link to the alleged document, saying "Such a document is not a Hamas-made; it is merely a European document.

Barhoum maintained "it is not wise that Mr. Hawatma comes out with such remarks, which would further split the Palestinian people. Hawatma should have rather talked about the national conciliation document, on which Hamas has agreed as a basis for national unity dialogue”.

“We hoped also that Mr. Hawatma would have talked about the latest efforts by the follow-up committee of the Palestinian national and Islamic factions to reach a unity government”, Barhoum made clear.

Nayef Hawatma is also Secretary General of the Democratic Front of the Liberation of Palestine, over the past four decades.
