Israeli sources reported on Sunday that the a senior military officer said that the arrest invasion which was carried in Ramallah, in the northern part of the West Bank, that left four Palestinians dead ahead of the Mubarak-Olmert meeting is a mistake.The invasion was carried out under-cover forces of the Israeli army last Thursday, four Palestinians were killed and at least twenty were injured.
Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak and the Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, are set to meet on Thursday in the Sharm Al Sheikh Egyptian resort.
Israeli Defense Minister, Amir Peretz, said that he was not informed of the attack and new about it from his advisors who had read about it from newswires, according to the Israeli online daily Haaretz.
The military officer said that the army was wrong, “We though that the invasion would go smoothly”, he stated, “We though troops could operate and leave the city before anyone notices them”.
The officer also said that Olmert-Mubarak meeting was taken into account by the army Central Command, and that the invasion was approved because military officials thought it would go without complications.
According to the officer, soldiers attempted to abduct Rabia Hamid, a Fateh member who is believed to be involved in reight recent shooting attacks against the army in Ramallah area.
Hamid was seriously injured by the invading forces, but managed to escape the arrest.
