Brussels – EU Foreign Policy Chief, Javier Solana, stated on Tuesday that the world must seize the current opportunity to push forwards the peace process between the Palestinian and Israel.During a meeting with the EU’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committees, Solana said that the Europeans and the Arab world must move forwards and encourage Palestinian-Israeli yalks for peace in the Middle East.
He welcomed the renewal of the Arab Peace Initiative and welcomed the efforts carried by several Arab countries, such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia in reviving the peace talks.
Solana also stated that he met with several Arab ministers and officials at the Egyptian resort of Sharm Al Sheikh, and said that those officials will continue their talks with European Foreign Ministers during the EU meeting in Brussels on May 14 in order to push the peace process forwards.
Moreover, Solana added that he fear that the American elections campaign will negatively affect the peace process since the United Stated might withdraw from the process until the elections are over.
Recently, several European officials visited the Palestinian territories and met with various Palestinian officials, including Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyya.
