Palestinian sources confirmed that the Israeli military has kidnapped Salem 'Obayyt, 22, in pre-dawn invasion on Monday. 'Obayyt is reported to be a Palestinian Security officer, and resident of Wad Abu Freha, near the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem.
Sources indicated that the invading Israeli force contained at least 10 military patrols in the neighborhood, besieging civilians' homes, opening heavy gunfire and detonating sound bombs, seemingly at random intervals, calling 'Obayyt for hand himself over to the Israeli troops.
The invasion caused substantial damages to homes of civilians before the abduction concluded. The operation ended on Monday morning, as the Israeli military took the man to an undisclosed detention center, without criminal charge.
In a separate operation, an Israeli military unit of some ten patrol vehicles entered the town of Beit Fajjar, west of Bethlehem, late on Sunday night. Clashes broke out with local Palestinian resistance fighters, causing some damages but no injuries. The Israeli army also prevented members of the press form attending the scene to cover the incident.
