Palestinian sources reported, Wednesday, that Israeli soldiers and undercover units of the Israeli army kidnapped seven children in the town of Silwan, south of the al-Aqsa Mosque, in occupied East Jerusalem. An eyewitness said that undercover soldiers ambushed the children while they were heading back home from school and kidnapped them. The army did not define the reason behind the children’s arrest.
The kidnapped children are 11 – 15 years old; the youngest was released later on. The six remaining children were moved to a local Israeli police station for questioning. They are from the areas of Batn al-Hawa, Ein al-Louza, al-Ein and Wadi Hilwa.
Furthermore, Mohammad Gheith, 14, from Batn al-Hawa, received an official order, on Tuesday, to appear at the nearest police station for questioning. On Thursday, he arrived at the police station accompanied by one of his relatives and was arrested for “attacking four Israeli soldiers’ on October 14th.
The incident the police referred to, allegedly took place during a violent attack on Gheith’s brother and mother in Ras al-Amoud in Silwan. Gheith had tried to stop policemen from attacking and beating his brother and mother. The act of defending his family is being considered as an attack against the policemen.
