Palestinian Minister of Detainees, Issa Qaraqe’, reported that the Israeli violations against the Palestinian detainees are seriously escalating, an issue that could push the detainees to conduct an open-ended hunger strike and even civil disobedience.He said that hunger striking detainees, especially Samer Al-Eesawy, in addition to Jafar Ez Ed-Deen, and Tareq Qa’dan, are facing life-threatening health complications.

Qaraqe added that the current escalating violations against the detainees, will likely push the detainees to conduct a new extended hunger strike, and even mutiny, this coming April the month the detainees set for their strike should Israel fail to end its attacks and abuse against them.

His statements came as he visited, along with delegates of the Ministry Of Detainees, Sheikh Bassam Sa’dy in the Jenin refugee camp. Sa’dy, an Islamic Jihad leader, who was released from an Israeli detention center a week ago.

On his part, Sa’dy said that the detainees are facing very harsh conditions in Israeli prisons, detention and interrogation centers, adding that the detainees need utmost support and solidarity.

Sa’dy, 53, was repeatedly kidnapped and imprisoned, including when he was taken prisoner in May of 2011 and remained imprisoned under Administrative Detention orders until he was recently released.

His wife is also a political prisoner who is still imprisoned by Israel. Two of his sons were killed by the Israeli army in 2002.

Israel is currently holding captive 4600 Palestinians, including 182 children and 11 women, in addition to 1200 detainees who are ill, including 20 who are continuously held at prison clinic.

There are 1200 detainees who suffering from different diseases and health conditions, including cancer, and are not receiving the adequate and specialized medical care they require. 20 of them are continuously staying at the Ramla Prison Clinic that lacks specialists, basic equipment and supplies, 18 detainees suffer from cancer, liver failure, or heart conditions, and 85 detainees who suffer from physical or mental conditions.
