[Monday November 25, 2013] Palestinian security men and gunmen exchanged fire in the Balata refugee camp, east of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, Palestinian sources have reported. The sources state that the security forces went into the camp and fired gas bombs at dozens of local youth, who burnt tires and tried to prevent them from advancing. Shortly afterwards, gunmen in the camp exchanged fire with the security forces.

Eyewitnesses stated that both sides fired dozens of rounds of live ammunition; no casualties have been reported until the time of this story.

On Sunday at night, clashes took place in the camp after a number of gunmen fired rounds of live ammunition into the air to celebrate the release of a Palestinian political prisoner from an Israeli prison.

Local sources said that it is likely that the security forces entered the camp to confiscate weapons, and to arrest their owners.
