On Wednesday, Day 313 of the ongoing genocide, Israeli missiles and shells killed and injured dozens of Palestinians, including children, women, and infants, in several parts of the devastated, destroyed, and besieged Gaza Strip, especially in Khan Younis.
The head of the government media office in Gaza, Ismael Thawabta, said the Israeli army continues to prevent the entry of aid trucks into the coastal region for the 100th day.
In Beit Hanoun, in northern Gaza, the army fired missiles and shells at several parts of the city, causing many casualties.
In Gaza City, the army fired a missile at a home, southeast of the city, killing three Palestinians, including a child, Tayyim Mohmmad Oleiwa, and wounding several others.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said its medics transferred to the Baptist Hospital three slain Palestinians and several injured residents after the army bombarded a home for the Yassin family near the Zeitoun Center, east of the city.
In Nusseirat refugee camp, in central Gaza, the army fired missiles and shells at many homes and buildings, killing dozens of Palestinians, including children and women whose bodies were severely mutilated.
In Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, the army fired a missile at a home in the Baten As-Sameen area, killing at least five Palestinians and wounding many others, including children and women.
The army also fired barrages of live rounds, missiles, and shells at the southeastern areas of Khan Younis, causing many casualties.
Also in Khan Younis, many casualties were reported when the army fired a missile at a residential tower in Hamad city, northwest of Khan Younis.
In Rafah, in Gaza’s southmost part, the army killed two Palestinian Civil Defense medics, bringing the number of slain medics to 82.
The army also fired a missile at the Arabiya area, north of Rafah, and the Bader area in Tal Al-Sultan neighborhood, west of Rafah, killing at least two Palestinians and wounding many.
The Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, released a video of its fighters targeting with shells Israeli soldiers who fortified themselves in the Indonesian Hospital, in the Tal Al-Sultan neighborhood, west of Rafah.
Al-Jazeera English said UNRWA informed the United Nations Security Council that the recent Israeli attack on a school in Gaza City, which killed more than 100 Palestinians and injured hundreds, was “far from an isolated incident,” adding that Israeli bombings of schools “occur with increasing frequency.”
Al-Jazeera added that the Israeli army ordered the Palestinians to evacuate more areas of the war-battered city of Khan Younis, and threatened to “act forcefully” to make them leave.
On the political level, Soheil Al-Hindi, as political leader of Hamas, said the movement will not participate in the ceasefire and prisoner-swap talks, which will resume in Qatar or Cairo on Thursday, and added that the movement’s position is clear; “a clear commitment from Israel to implement the July ceasefire proposal, which Hamas accepted (1 Al-Jazeera English, 2 Al-Jazeera English.)
The deal, presented by both Egypt and Qatar, has three stages that would lead to the halt of fighting, the withdrawal of the Israeli army, and the release of Israeli captives along with an unspecified number of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons.
Al-Hindi added that Hamas will be part of talks that would lead to a ceasefire and a prisoner-swap agreement and will be willing to discuss all arrangements if Israel stops the offensive on Gaza.
However, the Israeli government headed by Benjamin Netanyahu has added some preconditions to accepting the deal, which could make the deal unattainable, including a precondition that Israel wants to keep control of the southern borders of Gaza, including the Philadelphi Corridor between Gaza and Egypt, and wants to searc
Netanyahu’s office said he “did not add new conditions, but is seeking a clarification to the proposal presented in May,” while the committee of families of the Israelis held in Gaza said in a statement that Israeli far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, is yet again foiling a prisoner-swap agreement, and added that the words and actions of Ben-Gvir, are endangering live of the Israelis held in Gaza, and reducing the chances of securing their release.
Many nationalist and far-right Israeli parties are strongly against a prisoner-swap agreement that would see the release of hundreds of Palestinian detainees and believe that only the ongoing war would lead to victory, while some parties want the deal to advance.
The Israeli negotiators complained that Netanyahu is not granting them sufficient powers to reach a deal, but is delaying and maneuvering for his political gain, even if this leads to a regional war.
In related news, the Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights said in a statement, “Call to International Action: Close Israeli Torture Camps and Ensure Accountability for Atrocities Against Palestinian Detainees” on August 13, that:
“For months, Al Mezan has exposed the mass atrocities perpetrated by Israeli forces and authorities against Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons and military detention and interrogation centers.
Recent accounts from legal representatives, reports from human rights organizations, and emerging evidence from media—including testimonies from medical professionals and leaked videos apparently showing Israeli soldiers sexually assaulting a Palestinian detainee—reveal a level of violence that resounds with the atrocities documented in Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib.

Since 7 October 2023, Israeli authorities have detained thousands of Palestinian residents of Gaza, with some occasionally released through the Karem Abu Salem/Kerem Shalom crossing. Al Mezan estimates that approximately 2,650 Gaza detainees are currently still held in various Israeli detention facilities, including 12 children and two women.
They are being detained in various detention facilities run by the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) or by the Israeli military, including Ketziot (Negev) Prison, Shikma Prison (Ashkelon) Ofer Prison, Ofer Military Camp, Nafha Prison, Sde Teiman Camp, Kishon Prison (Al-Jalama), Al-Maskobiyya and Petah Tikva detention centers. Among them, approximately 300 are facing trials, while 2,350 are classified as “unlawful combatants” without a defined detention period or specific charges. In the initial months of detention, all detainees were subject to orders barring contact with lawyers, and 70 detainees continue to be denied lawyer visits to this day.”
