It is worth mentioning that Israeli forces fired dozens of shells between Rafah and Khan Younis in southern Gaza as part of an expansion of the Morag military axis.
Images released by the Israeli army show further destruction of residential blocks in western and central Rafah, following the complete demolition of the city’s southern areas.
In early April, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israeli forces had taken control of what he called the “Morag axis” in southern Gaza. This newly designated corridor spans agricultural land between Khan Younis and Rafah, running east to west across the Gaza Strip.
Notably, parts of this area had previously been labeled by the Israeli military as a “humanitarian zone,” where displaced Palestinians were instructed to seek shelter—before the army began bombing the area.
The term “axis” or “corridor” had not been used to describe this region until Netanyahu’s announcement. The name “Morag” refers to an illegal Israeli colony that was established in the area in 1972 and remained until its dismantling in 2005.
The Health Ministry reported that hospitals in Gaza received 51 fatalities—including one whose body was recovered—and 113 wounded in the past 24 hours.
Between March 18, when Israel refused to extend the ceasefire, and April 29, 2025, Israeli forces have killed at least 2,308 Palestinians and wounded more than 5,973.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has killed at least 52,400 Palestinians, including more than 15,626 children, 9,807 women, 3,854 elderly individuals, 236 journalists, 300 UNRWA staff, and 1,502 medical personnel. More than 118,014 people—largely children, women, and the elderly—have been wounded across the devastated coastal enclave. Thousands remain missing, many trapped beneath the rubble of destroyed buildings across Gaza.
