Israeli occupation forces killed 54-year-old Palestinian Ziad Mohammad Jaber during a predawn invasion of Al-Bireh, east of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank, on Tuesday.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said Jaber died from severe gunshot wounds sustained during the invasion of his home in Umm al-Sharayet. His brother said Israeli special forces entered Jaber’s home and opened fire with live ammunition.
The Israeli military told The Times of Israel that Jaber reportedly tried to seize a soldier’s weapon during what it described as operational activity and was then shot.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said its crews treated Jaber for gunshot wounds to the abdomen and thigh, performed emergency resuscitation at the scene, and transported him to a hospital. The Health Ministry later confirmed his death.
Jaber’s brother said soldiers arrived at Jaber’s home at about 4 a.m. and entered after detonating the main door.
“Within a minute, I heard my brother screaming. I didn’t hear anything else. I was tied up in a room, and my daughter was also brought there,” he said. “I asked the soldiers what was happening, but they kept telling me to remain quiet.”
“They asked me about my son, Amr, before abducting him, and they searched the home for more than an hour,” he added. “I did not know my brother had been shot until Red Crescent medics arrived. They executed my brother. He wasn’t wanted, and he hadn’t done anything wrong.”
Local sources said soldiers also broke into several other homes in the neighborhood and carried out searches and abductions.
Residents said Israeli military vehicles remained deployed throughout Umm al-Sharayet after the shooting.
Local sources said Israeli forces also abducted Mohammad Karakra after breaking into his home in Al-Hashimiya, Al-Bireh.
Palestinian sources reported near-daily Israeli military invasions and abductions across the occupied West Bank, including in Ramallah, Qalqilia, Tulkarem, Nablus, Jenin, and Tubas.
