The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) revealed in its mid‑2026 report a sharp and unprecedented escalation in Israeli arrest campaigns and violations inside prisons, affirming that the detention system has become a central pillar of a broader, systematic policy targeting Palestinians through torture, starvation, medical neglect, isolation, and various forms of abuse.
According to the report, Israeli authorities carried out more than 3,600 abductions across the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, during the first six months of the year, in addition to hundreds of abductions in the Gaza Strip.
The data shows that 276 children and 107 women were abducted during this period, while March recorded the highest monthly total with nearly 900 abductions.
By April, the number of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons exceeded 9,600, including 3,532 administrative detainees, held without charges or trial, with Hebron in the southern West Bank recording more than 700 abductions, the highest among all districts.
PPS noted that administrative detention has expanded at an unprecedented rate, with the number of administrative detainees reaching 3,244 by early July, including children and women, amid the continued use of this measure without charge or trial.
The report stressed that Israeli prisons have effectively transformed into a “parallel system of extermination,” marked by systematic torture, starvation, denial of medical treatment, and the spread of diseases—most notably scabies—alongside sexual assaults and prolonged isolation.
Testimonies from detainees, particularly those abducted from the Gaza Strip, document conditions described as the harshest in the history of the Palestinian prisoners’ movement.
The report further stated that since the beginning of the genocide in Gaza, the number of abductions in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, has surpassed 24,600, including more than 785 women and over 1,900 children.
As of early July, the number of Palestinians currently held in Israeli prisons reached approximately 9,400, including 94 women, more than 350 children, and 1,320 detainees classified by Israel under the designation of “unlawful combatants.”
PPS concluded its report by emphasizing that the violations committed against detainees are no longer isolated incidents but reflect an official policy implemented across the prison system. It warned that the continued absence of international accountability grants Israeli authorities further impunity to commit additional crimes against thousands of prisoners and detainees.
