On Thursday night, Israeli authorities released more than 40 Palestinian political prisoners from various prisons, interrogation centers, and detention camps. These prisoners had completed their sentences and several administrative detainees were held without charges, many of whom showed signs of torture and skin diseases.
The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) reported that the detainees were released at the Thaheriyya military roadblock, south of Hebron in the southern part of the occupied West Bank, outside Ofer prison west of the central West Bank city of Ramallah, and near the Salem military base and roadblock, east of the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

The PPS reported that some of the freed detainees suffer from skin conditions, particularly those released from the Negev desert detention camp, which has been notably associated with instances of torture, as evidenced by numerous testimonies collected by relevant organizations.

Initial photographs of the released individuals revealed significant physical changes attributed to the systematic abuse and torture they endured while in detention.
These images illustrate the profound effects of such mistreatment; several of the released detainees were moved to Palestinian hospitals immediately after their release.

It is important to highlight that these releases occur alongside ongoing invasions and abductions, with more than 10,200 abductions confirmed in the West Bank alone since October 7, 2023, in addition to thousands of citizens detained in Gaza, and the fate of the majority of whom remains unknown.
As of early August, the total number of prisoners in occupation facilities exceeded 9,900. However, this number does not include those who were abducted in the Gaza Strip and are held in interrogation camps operated by the occupation military, where they face systematic torture and abuse, resulting in the death of many detainees.
