The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has strongly condemned the ongoing violations committed by the Israeli occupation forced against Palestinian journalists in both Gaza and the West Bank.

According to the Syndicate, 137 distinct incidents of violence, abuse, and rights violations against journalists were documented, including the killing of 12 journalists and the destruction of four media offices in Gaza.

A report issued by the Syndicate’s Freedom Committee for the month of May highlights the forced displacement of around 250 journalists, mostly from Khan Younis in southern Gaza, with another 100 from the north.

These journalists were driven from their homes amid escalating genocide, leaving them without work and exposing them and their families to life-threatening danger in the context of the ongoing atrocities in Gaza.

The report further notes that 12 journalists were killed in Israeli airstrikes during May, while another nine were severely injured by gunfire and missile shrapnel in both Gaza and the West Bank. Some victims are in critical condition.

The Israeli bombardment also targeted a media building in Gaza housing four satellite television channels, which was destroyed.

Additionally, 14 journalists were physically assaulted, attacks attributed to both Israeli soldiers and illegal paramilitary Israeli colonizers in the occupied West Bank. Several of the injured were hospitalized.

The report recorded 64 cases of detention or obstruction of journalists and media crews from performing their duties.

There were 15 incidents of suffocation from tear gas, five cases of live fire intended to intimidate, four attempted vehicular assaults, and three arrests.

Four journalists were brought before Israeli military courts, two were summoned for interrogation, and three experienced the demolition of their homes in Gaza.

Despite these mounting threats, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate affirmed its ongoing efforts to coordinate with relevant bodies to safeguard journalists and pursue legal accountability for the Israeli occupation. As of the report’s publication, 226 media professionals have been killed by Israel in the line of duty.

Following the resumption of the genocide, after Israel broke the ceasefire agreement in Gaza on March 18, 2025, more than 5,194 Palestinians have been killed and at least 17,279 injured.

Since the beginning of this year, Israel has killed over 6,347 Palestinians, including 1,265 children, 322 women, and 37 journalists. At least 17,279 others have been injured.

Since October 7, 2023, the total Palestinian death toll has surpassed 55,493, including more than 16,507 children, 9,803 women, 4,036 elders, and 254 journalists, with more than 129,320 others, largely children and women, injured.

Approximately 9,000 Palestinians remain missing, many trapped under rubble or lying in streets inaccessible to rescue teams due to ongoing bombing, massive destruction, and the lack of fuel and machinery.

In the occupied West Bank during the same timeframe, Israeli soldiers and paramilitary settlers have killed 992 Palestinians, including 200 children, 21 women, 15 elderly individuals, and one journalist.

Among those killed, 228 were extrajudicially executed, 403 were killed during Israeli military invasions, and 24 were killed by settlers. Israeli authorities also continue to withhold the bodies of 239 slain Palestinians.
