Two Palestinian detainees announced Hunger Strike in protest to harsh conditions and medical neglect in Israeli prisons.
The two detainees, Mohammad Ala’ ed-Deen, from Bethlehem, and Salah Barghouthi from Ramallah, said that they are conducting hunger strike in protest of the bad conditions and treatment they receive, in addition to confining them to solitary over the last 110 days, in al-Maskobiyya detention in Jerusalem.
The Palestinian Prisoners Society reported that three of its lawyers, Fahmi al-Oweywi, Jamal Abatly and Mohannad al-Kharraz visited the two detainees, who informed them of repeated torture and abuse carried out against them by Israeli soldiers and policemen.
“The two detainees are not only subjected to extreme torture, they are also deprived from their medical rightsâ€Â, the lawyers said, “they need to receive medical treatment, and torture is clearly apparent of their bodies and skinâ€Â.
The detainees cannot even sleep since the soldiers repeatedly break into their cells during different times of the days and nights.ÂÂ
The lawyers also visited detainee Taleb Qasem al-Sheikh, who is suffering from a serious infection in his intestines which causes internal bleeding, yet he is also deprived from any medical treatment.
