An Israeli military source reported on Monday that a Palestinian resistance group fired homemade shells at the Israeli Negev town of Sderot, no injuries were reported.
The “Red Dawn” alert system identified seven homemade hells fired at Sderot, Yossi Cohen, Sderot city hall spokesperson said.
The shells landed in open areas around Sderot and did not hit any populated area.
Israeli army is currently trying to locate the launching location, and announced security alert in the area.
An Israeli security source reported on Monday that the army believes that resistance factions will increase their attacks after the soldiers killed the leader of Al Quds brigades; the military of the Islamic Jihad earlier in Tulkarem, another fighter was also killed in the attack.
The two fighters killed in the military attack were identified as Luay Al Saadi and Majed Al Ashqar. The military operation mainly targeted Al Saadi, who is believed to be the mastermind of several suicide bombings in Israel and attacks against the Israeli army and settlers in the West Bank.
Israel also holds Al Saadi responsible for dispatching the suicide bomber who detonated himself in the Stage Club suicide, in Tel Aviv in February 2005; five Israelis were killed.
The Islamic Jihad movement vowed to revenge the assassination of Al Saadi. Ramadan Abdullah Shalah, Islamic Jihad leader in Damascus said that the movement will retaliate and “shake up” Israel in retaliation to the assassination.
Israeli Defense Minister, Shaul Mofaz, ordered the army to prepare for further possible attacks, and instructed his military officers to retaliate harshly to any operation against Israeli targets.
Israeli soldiers, and security forces, were intensively deployed in Sderot and around it.
