An Israeli medical source reported on Friday that four family members, including a child, were injured, on Friday afternoon, in Kibbutz Karmiya, in the western Negev, after a Palestinian armed group fired homemade shells at the Kibbutz.

The source stated that a 7-month-old baby suffered moderate head wounds, other family members suffered light injuries.
 
Israeli online daily Haaretz reported that one homemade shell directly hit the caravan the family is living in, bringing down the plaster wall.
 
Several settler families, who were evacuated from the settlements in the Gaza Strip, are still living in the caravan neighborhood which was hit by the homemade shells.
 
According to Haaretz, the Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack.
 
Haaretz added that the Israeli Magen David Adom ambulances rushed to the shelled area and evacuated the injured to Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva and Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon.
 
Meanwhile, the Likud party in Israel said on Friday that Ehud Olmert, the acting Israeli Prime Minister and the Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz "are abandoning the citizens of Israel".
 
Also on Friday, two Qassam homemade shells were fired at the Israeli coastal town of Ashkelon.
 
One of the shells hit the industrial zone in Ashkelon; damage was reported in a structure which belongs to the Mekorot water company. 
 
Following the firing of the shells, Israeli artillery fired several shells at the Gaza Strip.
 
Fridays’ incident marks the first Qassam attack since Hamas won the Palestinian parliamentary elections.
