Israeli forces suppressed, Friday, the weekly non-violent anti-settlement procession in the village of Kufur Qaddoum, east of Qalqilia in the northern occupied West Bank, injuring dozens of civilians, according to a local official.
Morad Eshteiwi, the coordinator of the Popular Committee against the Annexation Wall & Colonies in Kufur Qaddoum stated that occupation soldiers fired rubber-coated steel rounds, injuring six Palestinians and tear gas canisters which caused dozens more to suffer inhalation injuries.
All injuries were treated by local medics at the scene.
Soldiers occupied several rooftops of civilian homes and attempts were made to ambush demonstrators in an effort to detain them, however no arrests were reported.
Hundreds of citizens attended the weekly march which began at the local mosque after the Friday Prayers. The local townspeople walked toward the main entrance of the town calling for confronting illegal settler attacks and increasing resistance to the occupation.
Palestinian demonstrators burned dozens of tires to obstruct the soldiers’ view and used slingshots to throw stones and tear gas canisters back towards the attacking army.
In 2003, occupation authorities closed the main road of Kufur Qaddoum town, and Palestinian citizens from surrounding villages have rallied every week since then, demanding the authorities reopen the road.
Israeli colonists from the nearby illegal Kedumin settlement, established on expropriated Palestinian lands, have full access to the street, while Palestinians are forced to take longer routes to Nablus city, the nearest major commercial center, prolonging travel time, causing undue hardship.
