The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday that the Israeli closure of the Rafah Border Crossing, between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, is barring the patients who require medical treatment in Egypt from traveling, which caused them further health complications. The Ministry stated that the Crossing is a vital passage to the residents, especially those who need urgent treatment abroad.

The Ministry also reported that the Crossing had been totally closed over the last twenty days.

The ministry considered the closure of the crossing as a direct violation to the principles of Human Rights, especially the right to receive the needed medical treatment.

In its statement, the Ministry stated that 200 patients were referred to Egyptian hospitals since they need urgent hospitalization, but are still waiting to be allowed through.

The Ministry appealed the international community, including the Red Cross, to interfere and oblige Israel to comply with the international law, and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
